Our History…

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to building lifelong relationships- because we believe the furniture in our homes play a central role in our most meaningful moments. It’s around the dining table that we create memories, on sofas and chairs where we teach our children to read, and in rockers where we soothe our babies to sleep. Furniture isn’t just functional- it’s woven into the fabric of our everyday lives.

That’s why we partner exclusively with the highest quality, family-owned furniture manufacturers in America. Companies like CR Laine, Harden, and Stickley-Our top three upholstery and case goods brands- share our values and our standards. Their commitment to American craftsmanship ensures exceptional quality, durability, and integrity in every piece.

Since 1928, we’ve maintained close relationships with the finest manufacturers in the industry. When production began shifting overseas in the 1990’s, particularly China, we noticed a decline in craftsmanship- even as prices rose. Products were more vulnerable to damage during long-distance shipping, and quality control suffered. To protect our customers and uphold our standards, we made a clear choice: to focus on American-made furniture. This decision allows us to offer case goods and upholstery that meet the highest expectations- for quality, longevity, and peace of mind.

Less worry. More value. And furniture that lasts a lifetime.

We are honored to carry on the legacy of CJ Artis, who- driven by great ambition- founded CJ ARTIS FURNITURE SHOP in 1928, during one of the most challenging times in our nation’s economy. The company spent its first 25 years at the corner of 12th and Grand (1201 Grand), before relocating west in 1953 to 2507 Ingersoll Avenue. It was then renamed Artis Furniture Company. That location became our home for the next 45 years. In 1998, we made the bold move to 100th Street, opening a brand-new building in December of that year. Unfortunately, the housing crisis of 2008 impacted consumer confidence, and we made the difficult decision to close that location in 2009.

CJ built his business on a simple but powerful principle: offer the best product at a fair price, backed by exceptional service- a commitment that still guides us today. In addition to being a respected businessman, CJ was a devoted family man, a proud Mason, and served as potentate for the Za-Ga-Zig shrine.

We are proud to continue his tradition at our current location, just north of Hickman on the east side of 100th Street: 2655 100th Street. The business is operated by Patty and Beth Artis, however Shey Buckley (CJ’s great great granddaughter/5th generation) play very important roles behind the scenes!
